ATLANTA — ATLANTA — Severe weather that moved through metro Atlanta left downed trees, road closures and widespread power outages across the region.
Cleanup continues Monday morning after the line of storms moved east of metro Atlanta, though some areas are still seeing complications.
Emergency officials reported a tree fell onto a structure on Summit Springs Drive in Sandy Springs, just south of the Chattahoochee River.
In Spalding County, emergency management officials reported trees and downed power lines at Vaughn Road and Fayetteville Road as well as at County Line Church Road and Mudbridge Road.
Authorities also shut down Highway 92 in Spalding County between Bicycle Road and Vaughn Road because large trees and power lines blocked the roadway.
In Coweta County, a tree was reported down across Highway 154 just north of Lower Fayette Road in Sharpsburg. Officials said the road remained passable northbound but was blocked southbound.
At one point, more than 30,000 people across metro Atlanta were without power, and about 55,000 customers statewide were in the dark. Counties with the highest number of outages included Cherokee, Fulton, Gwinnett, Coweta and Clayton counties, each with more than 4,000 customers affected.
At last check, Fulton County still had about 3,000 customers without power caused by the storms, while DeKalb County had just under 1,000 outages.
In Rockdale County, public reports indicated trees and power lines were down near the intersection of Bonds Lake Road and Irwin Bridge Road.
Colder weather is also moving into the area following the storms.
WSB Radio Meteorologist Christina Edwards says temperatures are expected to drop Monday afternoon.
