COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A police officer in Fountain, Colorado, has died days after he reportedly fell from a bridge during an on-duty incident, officials say.
The Fountain Police Department released a statement Saturday on Facebook confirming Officer Julian Becerra’s death.
According to KKTV, Becerra was a Fountain police officer and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He died from his injuries Saturday evening after he reportedly fell from a bridge in Colorado Springs last week. Becerra fell about 40 feet as he was pursuing a carjacking suspect.
“It is with extreme sadness that we at the Fountain Police Department notify the public that K-9 Officer Julian Becerra has succumbed to the injuries he suffered during an on-duty incident that occurred on February 2, 2023. We appreciate the public’s outpouring of support over the past week for Officer Becerra, his family, and the Fountain Police Department,” said Fountain Police Department.
Authorities say Becerra’s family has chosen to not make any public statements at the moment.
Plans have not yet been announced for Becerra’s funeral, according to KKTV.
