A sinkhole that opened up during torrential rain Tuesday night in Athens, Georgia swallowed a car, according to police.
Strong storms with heavy rain and howling winds moved through metro Atlanta overnight, leaving trees toppled and roads flooded.
WSB Meteorologist Christina Edwards tracked the storms all night and Wednesday morning. Nearly half a foot of rain fell in northwest metro Atlanta in less than 24 hours, Edwards says.

Athens-Clarke County police said there was major damage to Olympic Drive between Hancock Industrial Boulevard and Athena Drive. Charlie Bolton Road also sustained damage.
Photos showed a white sedan appearing to teeter between two remaining stretches of road before tipping into a sinkhole. It’s unclear if the car has been removed.
Rain moves out this afternoon and gives way to sunshine and fair temperatures.
