MARIETTA, GA — A Marietta home was damaged by fire Thursday after residents placed used fireworks into a garbage can, which later caught fire.

The fire happened at a home on Silver Leaf Drive. Officials say the homeowner had been shooting fireworks to ring in the New Year and placed the used fireworks in the trash afterward.

The fire caused damage primarily to the home’s chimney.

No one inside the home was injured, and firefighters were also unharmed while responding to the scene.
