DEKALB COUNTY, GA — Police arrested three people in connection to a shooting that left a three-year-old injured near a McDonald’s on North Stone Mountain-Lithonia Road in DeKalb County on Sunday evening.
DeKalb police say there were some people arguing nearby when someone started shooting. A three-year-old child was in his car seat riding with his father when he was struck by a stray bullet.
He was rushed to the hospital and is in critical condition.
DeKalb County Police Chief Greg Padrick calls the incident “senseless” and his thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family.
Police did not release the identity of the three people who were arrested. They have been charged with aggravated assault. One of the suspects in a juvenile and the other two are in their early 20’s.
DeKalb County’s CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson said the county’s mandatory video surveillance at gas stations and high crime businesses helped detectives quickly identify the suspects vehicle and those involved.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact DeKalb police or submit tips through the department’s free app.
