Today marks the 26th day of January, and so far, it has rained nearly 2 weeks of this new year!
Adding it all up, the month to date rainfall in Atlanta is 6.42 inches, which is nearly 2 inches above the monthly average rainfall for January.
Athens is even wetter! A total of 8.26 inches of rain has fallen in the previous four weeks.
Thankfully, North Georgia and Metro Atlanta will enjoy a brief dry spell heading into Saturday, however the rain showers will return on Sunday.
Beneficial Rainfall: Lake Lanier levels coming up, no drought in North Georgia
During the Fall 2022 season, Lake Lanier levels dropped to 1066 feet. However, the lake levels are now back up to near Summer Pool levels courtesy of the heavy rainfall this winter.

As of the January 26 US Drought Monitor, no drought conditions are observed in North Georgia -- including Metro Atlanta -- though drought conditions do continue in the coastal region as well as near the Florida state line.
