Hurricane Dorian makes landfall in Bahamas with winds of 185 mph (WSB-TV)

Catastrophic Category 5 Hurricane Dorian has made landfall on Elbow Cay in the Abacos Island of the Bahamas.

Dorian has become the strongest hurricane in modern records for the northwestern Bahamas and one of the strongest storms by wind speed in the Atlantic.

As of 1 p.m. Sunday, the Category 5 storm has maximum sustained winds 185 mph with gusts of 220 mph. It is moving toward the west near 8 mph.

Dorian continues to move west, and could drop more than 4 feet of rain over Grand Bahama Island later today through Tuesday. The eyewall could stick around 24 hours on the island.
