Falcons’ Terrell placed on COVID reserve list, first NFL player to miss game this season

The Atlanta Falcons have placed rookie cornerback A.J. Terrell on the COVID-19 reserve list. Terrell becomes the first NFL player to miss a game over COVID-19 this season.

NFL teams can not disclose whether a player on the list tested positive for COVID-19 or if they are in quarantine for coming in contact with someone who did.

But multiple outlets, including ESPN and NFL Network, reported that Terrell tested positive for the virus after he took a test Friday.

As of Sunday morning, Terrell is the only player the Falcons have put on the COVID-19 reserve list. Atlanta hosts the Chicago Bears at 1 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The Falcons drafted Terrell, who graduated from Westlake and Clemson, with the No. 13 pick in this year’s NFL Draft. Terrell started the first two games of the season and played almost every defensive snap.

Terrell missing Sunday’s game against the Bears is the latest blow to the Falcons defense. Kendall Sheffield and Ricardo Allen are out with previous injuries.

Meanwhile, the Falcons' offense could be without star wide receiver Julio Jones because of a hamstring injury. He will be a game-time decision.
