ATHENS — Kirby Smart is as deliberate with his press conference terminology as his game plans, nothing ever being said accidentally or out of place.
So it is that Smart has described the past week for this No. 1-ranked 2023 Georgia football team as one of “Refueling,” an indication no major overhauls were needed, but a replenishment of sorts is called for with five games left in the regular season.
The Bulldogs play in Florida at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday (TV: CBS) against the University of Florida in Jacksonville, some 70 miles from the Gainesville campus and 340 miles from Athens.
The SEC Nation and Paul Finebaum Show will be on location to hype the event, featuring added commentary from SEC legend Tim Tebow, SEC Nation host Laura Rutledge and analysts Jordan Rodgers and Roman Harper.
Here are three takeaways from Kirby Smart’s press conference on Monday:
Refueling the rocket ship
Smart has turned the Georgia program into the most successful of the fourth-team CFP era, at least, that is what the history books will show. The Bulldogs are the only program to win back-to-back CFP titles, and more impressively they did so while producing a record-amount of draft picks (34 over three seasons).
Smart shared how his “refueling” term was in reference to Georgia focusing on improvement, more so than investing emotion into the opponent.
