ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia senior pitcher Lauren Mathis pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout of Georgia State Wednesday evening. The 19th-ranked Bulldogs edged the Panthers 1-0 in the contest.

Mathis (3-1) went the distance in the seven-inning affair, pitching a season-long outing and fanning seven Panthers and walking only two.

The Bulldogs (15-2) scattered four total hits from four different student-athletes including senior Mackenzie Puckett, redhisrt-sophomore Jaiden Fields, freshman Sydney Chambley, and junior Savana Sikes.

Georgia plated the would-be difference maker in the game in the bottom of the second. Chambley knocked a one-out triple off the wall in center. Sikes followed with a triple off the wall in nearly the same spot to easily plate Chambley and put Georgia ahead 1-0.

Mathis mowed down the Panthers en route to the shutout in the final five innings.

Georgia will host North Dakota and East Carolina at Jack Turner Stadium this weekend as part of the UGA Classic beginning Friday.
