Q: What can I do to tackle English Ivy right now?

English ivy

A: Fall is typically the best time to spray unwanted ground cover like ivy and kudzu. The plant best absorbs herbicide at that time. And many times, repeat applications are necessary. But now that low vegetative growth has died back, it’s a great time to manually cut out and remove as many stems and runners of unwanted groundcover as you can. You can get even a better eye on them once you’ve mowed over the foliage with a mower set at the highest possible setting. Do this between now and mid-February.

Another reason now is such a great time is we’re not as worried about running into our slithering friends hiding in and amongst thick groundcover.
