A 13-year-old Cobb County girl is being charged with murder after her newborn daughter was found dead in a shoe box in Mableton.

The girl was found in the box under some leaves behind the Sierra Forest Apartments on Mableton Parkway Wednesday afternoon.

News/Talk WSB has learned the infant's father is a 14-year-old boy goes to the same middle school as the mother. Students at the Cobb County school were aware of the pregnancy.

Police are not release the parents’ names or the name of the school the go to.

The mother was arrested Thursday and is being held without bond. She facing charges of felony murder, child cruelty and concealing a death. She is being charged as an adult.

The father is not charged.

The Cobb County medical examiner has the child’s body and will perform an autopsy to figure out how the girl died.

Georgia has a Safe Haven law which allows mothers to leave newborn babies with an employee of a medical facility without facing criminal charges.
