BROWNSVILLE, Texas — A pair of recent seizures at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge in Texas netted more than $1.7 million in suspected methamphetamine, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials confirmed.
According to a news release, the first interception occurred June 17 and involved an 18-year-old male U.S. citizen. The unidentified man resides in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, but was attempting entry into the United States, when CPB officers discovered 30 packages of the suspected narcotic, or roughly 34 pounds of meth with an estimated street value of $680,780, hidden inside the 2008 Ford he was driving.
The second seizure occurred June 18 when a 19-year-old male U.S. citizen from Channelview, Texas, applied for entry into the United States driving a 2006 Dodge. Officers discovered 24 packages of suspected meth, or roughly 53 pounds of the narcotic with an estimated street value of nearly $1.1 million, hidden inside the vehicle, the agency stated.
Both vehicles and the narcotics were seized, while both men were arrested and turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations special agents.
