How many people still drive 55 on Interstate highways?

Fourteen states now have speed limits over 70 on some major highways , but don't expect Georgia to follow the trend.  "When you start comparing Georgia to Wyoming and some other states, it's like night and day," says Athens State Representative Keith Heard.

Heard spent most of his adult life in the insurance business, and he worries about life and limb, and pocketbook.  "People may say they want to support higher speeds, but I'm sure at the same time they don't want to pay higher premiums," he says.

On some Texas highways, the speed limit is now 85.
