Did you feel it? A small earthquake rattled parts of north Georgia Thursday night.

The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed a 2.6 magnitude earthquake occurred around 11:47 p.m. Thursday.

The earthquake’s center was recorded just northeast of Eton in Murray County near the Georgia-Tennessee state line.

Several people called the WSB newsroom to report they felt the earthquake. Others said their pets felt it, too.

“Dogs sense everything. He alerted me that my house was going to shake before it shook,” Lisa Harvey posted in the group.

Calls asking about the earthquake also flooded 911 in nearby places like Gilmer County.

“YES, we all just felt an earthquake!! No need in calling into 911 to tell us, unless you have a true emergency,” the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office posted.

Georgia has been prone to small earthquakes over the years, but they are rare. Only a few hundreds have happened in the state since 1900.

Georgia still has a number of fault lines, though. That’s where most earthquakes occur.
