DeKalb County police want the driver of a tractor-trailer responsible for starting a deadly chain-reaction crash on I-285 Tuesday morning.
The wreck killed two people and shutdown I-285 southbound near Hwy 29 for almost four hours. The WSB Traffic Center first reported the wreck at 5:30 a.m.
DeKalb police believe a tractor-trailer clipped a Ford Focus. Its driver lost control and ran into a Toyota Camry. The drivers of the Camry and Focus were checking the damage when they were hit by a fourth vehicle. Both men were killed. They were identified as Gashaw Tefera, 38, of Stone Mountain and Artraceous "Trey" Little, 21, of Covington.
The driver of that fourth vehicle was taken to a hospital, but is expected to be ok. That person will not be charged.
The trucker, however, does face charges. Police do not have a description of the vehicle.
“You have to remember those big tractor-trailers might clip a vehicle and not even realize it,” said WSB’s Cpt Herb Emory.
The wreck made a mess of the morning drive. Traffic on I-85 was jammed at I-85. There were also major delays on I-85 southbound with people trying to find another way around the wreck.
