As a Carroll County man starts his 10-year prison sentence for knowingly spreading HIV, one of the victims has come forward to tell her story.
"I just have a whole life ahead that I planned for myself," the woman, who didn't want to be identified, tells Channel 2 Action News, "and now that's all changed."
"I was hearing rumors that he was HIV positive," she says. "I confronted him about it, and he said it wasn't true."
Her initial test was negative, but a second one came back positive. The woman had been infected with HIV.
Her case, and that of two others, helped put Jamarlos Dobbs in jail. He was sentenced on February 13th to 10 years in prison and another 10 years on probation.
Assistant District Attorney Vincent Faucette says Dobbs knew what he was doing.
"There was a tattoo on Mr. Dobbs' back that had a depiction of the Grim Reaper and the caption 'Feel My Pain,'" Faucette tells Channel 2 Action News.
At the time of Dobbs' arrest in 2011, Faucette says Dobbs was having sexual conversations with at least 18 different women.
"If more victims come forward," says Faucette, "we will indict Mr. Dobbs for those."
