UGA’s summer semester classes come to a close

Today is the last day for summer session classes at the University of Georgia. UGA students will be taking their final exams on-line, the same way they took their classes. The University continues to aim for an August 24 start to fall semester that will have students back on campus in and in classrooms.

From the UGA website...

The University of Georgia’s primary commitment is to the health and safety of the faculty, staff and students. On June 15, essential staff and supervisors returned to campus to begin the phased, gradual and carefully planned return to normal operations. On July 7, the University announced plans for Phases 2 and 3.

  • Effective July 15, 2020, the University of Georgia – along with all University System of Georgia (USG) institutions – will require all faculty, staff, students and visitors to wear an appropriate face covering while inside campus facilities/buildings facilities/buildings where six feet social distancing may not always be possible.
  • Phase 2 will begin on Monday, July 20, as supervisors, personnel who perform mission critical/time-sensitive functions and appropriate support personnel return to campus.
  • Phase 3 will begin on Monday, August 10, when all faculty and staff return to campus for Fall Semester, unless they have been approved for telework.

The academic calendar for the Fall Semester has not changed. Classes will begin on Thursday, August 20. In-person instruction will conclude at Thanksgiving Break, with all remaining coursework and final exams moving online following Thanksgiving. For more information about the plans for Fall Semester Instruction, read the June 23 announcement (see student message).

It is important that all members of the community are aware of the many safety precautions being taken by the University, are knowledgeable of the resources available to them, and understand their individual responsibility to abide by the guidelines issued by the GDPH, CDC, USG, and UGA to contain the spread of the coronavirus. Please review the July 8 campus message for more information on health and safety efforts on campus.
