Teen faces vehicular homicide charge after deadly crash

Alan Vazquez Catalan

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — An 18-year-old from Duluth is facing a vehicular homicide charge following a deadly crash in Lawrenceville that police say was linked to illegal street racing.

Police say the high-speed crash happened along Breckinridge Boulevard just south of Sugarloaf Mills when one of two cars involved left the road and hit a tree.

The 28-year-old driver of that vehicle did not survive.

Investigators say they tracked down the driver of the second car using traffic cameras.

Police later arrested 18-year-old Alan Vazquez Catalan, who they say admitted to racing and then driving home after the crash.

Catalan now faces a first-degree vehicular homicide charge.

Neighbors say the area is known for street racing.
