Solo Cup laying off more than half of its metro Atlanta workforce

UPSON COUNTY, Ga. — An Upson County production plant is reducing its workforce.

Eighty-four people have been laid off from a Thomaston production plant.

They were employed by the Solo Cup Operating Corporation, making plastic food service containers.

Those affected held positions of maintenance mechanics, operational excellence manager, product safety specialist and clerical assistant.

The company blames the job cuts on a decrease in production volume.

“Reducing our Thomaston workforce was a necessary but painful decision because we value the commitment and contributions of our employees, some of whom have been with us for decades,” said Dart CEO Keith Clark.

The laid-off workers will be able to get 60 days of wages and benefits.

The facility is located about 65 miles south of Atlanta.
