Next up – Smyrna. The Cobb County city on Monday night became the latest in metro Atlanta to ban shareable dockless devices – including scooters - from the right-of-way in its limits.
The city council’s vote was 6-0.
The ordinance to go into effect in Smyrna will make it illegal to provide the use of the e-devices, leave them standing or lying in the right-of-way, or on public property, or to ride them in the city.
Smyrna is the latest city to take action on e-scooters and bicycles, which have become increasingly popular across the U.S. At the same time, the devices have brought their own set of safety and nuisance issues.
Neighboring Marietta earlier this year banned the devices. A handful of other metro cities have taken actions to restrict their use, including Atlanta.
