It appears three people have drowned in Metro Atlanta lakes this Memorial Day weekend, with two of the deaths occuring in Lake Allatoona.
Saturday morning a 34-year-old man was swimming outside the designated swimming area when he went under the water for several minutes, Acworth police said.
Gregory Edelin, of Fairburn, died after being transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital. The incident happened around 9:45 a.m. at Dallas Landing Park.
A few hours later a 17-year-old was reported missing in a cove near Burton Mill Park at Lake Lanier in South Hall County. Quavante Combs was under water for nearly 20 minutes, police said.
Meanwhile, authorities have not recovered the body of a 20-year-old man who went missing in Lake Allatoona Friday night.
The man jumped from a boat and did not resurface, Tim Cavender with Cherokee County fire and rescue said. Emergency workers were called to the scene about 7:15 p.m. The man was in a boat with two others near Harbor Town Marina, off Galts Ferry Road.
Authorities know the man’s name, but have not released it.
