Authorities in four metro Atlanta cities are looking for a woman who is scamming cashiers out of cash.
Roswell Police Officer Lisa Holland tells Channel 2 Action News the woman has managed to pull off the scam in in at least three Hobby Lobby stores.
The woman, who has been caught on surveillance video, approaches the cashier with a small purchase, then gives five twenty dollar bills, and then asks for $100 bill.
"When the exchange takes place and she gets possession of the $100 bill she quickly
changes it to a ten and shows the register lady saying you accidentally gave me a ten dollar bill. And then the lady will hand her over another $100," said Holland.
By the time the cashier figures out what has happened, the woman is gone.
"They get distracted with the people in line and end up cleaning out their drawer with them not knowing what happened to them," said Holland.
Police say she has hit stores in Roswell, Cumming, and Stone Mountain, and tried unsuccessfully at a store in Buford.
Authorities also think there could be other cashiers who have been victimized and either haven't caught it or reported it yet.
