What started out as a call about drug activity at a Cobb County apartment complex leads to the arrest of a self-proclaimed tattoo artist.
Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin tells WSB they were originally called to the Bently Road Apartments Wednesday about possible illegal drug activity going on.
"They were able to smell the suspected odor of marijuana coming from the apartment as well as the dog alerted on the door as well," said Baldwin.
Police were given permission to come inside and search the apartment with the dog and some pot was found. Baldwin says they stumbled on something more disturbing.
"During that time, there were also two juveniles that were also inside the apartment and one of them had just got finished receiving a tattoo by the suspect. Prior, just prior to the police showing up, the second juvenile was about to receive a tattoo," said Baldwin.
Georgia law prohibits anyone except a doctor or osteopath from giving a tattoo to anyone under 18, even with parent consent.
41-year-old Steven Theriot, who was visiting the apartment, has been charged with tattooing the body of a minor, a misdemeanor.
Baldwin says since he had tattoo equipment with him, they're trying to determine if he tattooed other juveniles.
"We do suspect that this is not the first time that he has done this and this could be a possible illegal operation that he is performing within the residences itself," said Baldwin.
19-year-old Hillary Coker was charged with drug possession.
