(GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga.) — The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released details about the plane which was forced to make an emergency landing on January 24 onto I-985, outside Buford, Georgia.
According to the report, the plane was piloted by a student and instructor pair, who had spent their flight training over North Georgia. As they made their way back to Gwinnett County Regional Airport (LZU), the instructor asked the student, who was piloting, to switch from a primary to a secondary fuel tank.
The student performed the procedure correctly, but unfortunately, the engine abruptly lost all power. As they were too far from any airport, the instructor performed an emergency landing onto I-985. Neither person was injured, but the airplane sustained considerable damage to its right wing and landing gear.
The FAA has also stated intention to look into the incident.
