New study ranks Georgia’s counties from healthiest to least healthy

How healthy is the area you live in?

According to a new study, Forsyth County is the healthiest county in Georgia.

The University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute has released its latest edition of the “County Health Rankings & Roadmaps.”

It ranked all of Georgia’s 159 counties from healthiest to least healthy, with Hancock County coming in last.

“The CHR&R program provides data, evidence, guidance and examples to build awareness of the multiple factors that influence health and support leaders in growing community power to improve health equity,” according to the institute’s website. “The Rankings are unique in their ability to measure the health of nearly every county in all 50 states, and are complemented by guidance, tools, and resources designed to accelerate community learning and action.”

The top five counties include Forsyth, Oconee, Cherokee, Cobb, and Fayette. The five least healthy counties include Randolph, Ben Hill, Miller, Early, and Hancock.

Among the counties with Georgia’s most populated cities, Fulton County came in at 13, Lowndes ranked at 63, Muscogee came in at 103, Richmond was 137, and Bibb was 139.

“CHR&R is known for effectively translating and communicating complex data and evidence-informed policy into accessible models, reports, and products that deepen the understanding of what makes communities healthy and inspires and supports improvement efforts,” the university said in statement. “County Health Rankings & Roadmaps’ work is rooted in a sincere belief in health equity, the idea that everyone deserves a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible.”
