ATLANTA — Atlanta fire has confirmed a man was hit and killed by a train at the Midtown MARTA station.
Heavy police and fire activity has shut down the Midtown MARTA station and one lane of 10th street after witnesses said a man was hit by a train.
MARTA officials said that the shut down was due to a trespasser on the southbound tracks, but didn’t give any further details.
A man who was on the train at the time of the incident told Channel 2′s Kristen Holloway that a man jumped in front of a train.
“I guess he jumped in front of the train and when they made us get off the train, she said someone was on the tracks, but she didn’t say she ran him over,” one witness said.
The witness said he could see the man’s legs under the train.
One lane of 10th Street between West Peachtree and Peachtree streets is shut down. Northbound MARTA service terminates at the Civic Center station and southbound service terminates at the Lindbergh Center station.
MARTA is offering subsidized transportation via an Uber credit to passengers affected by the shutdown.
