New numbers out from the U.S. Census Bureau underscore Georgia’s growth over the past few years.

The Census Bureau updated their numbers Thursday and showed that Georgia’s population has grown by more than 200,000 people since 2020.

In 2020, Georgia had a population of 10,729,828. By 2022, the state had 10,912,876 people.

Much of metro Atlanta saw a population boom as well, with Gwinnett County having the most significant jump.

In July 2020, Gwinnett County had a population of 958,005. In July 2022, that population had jumped to 975,353, adding more than 17,000 people to the county.

Fulton County saw an increase of just over 5,200 people in the same time period. DeKalb and Clayton counties actually saw a decrease in population, by more than 1,000 people for both.

A little further out in the metro, Cherokee and Forsyth counties also had big jumps, with their populations increasing by more than 13,000 and 14,000 people, respectively.

In general, the South saw the biggest influx of people over the last two years, while the Northeast and Midwest saw decreases in population. The West also had a bit of a rise, but not nearly as much as the South.
