ATLANTA — The metro Atlanta community is getting ready to celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Monday.
Besides church services such as the service at Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Martin Luther King Jr. once preached, many organizations have come together to put on parades, showcases and more around metro Atlanta.
The following is a list of events around metro Atlanta that will celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
The United Ebony Society’s 20th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Parade
The United Ebony Society will host this inclusive event that will symbolize the vision of Dr. King.
The parade at noon will begin at The Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center at 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville.
Historic Westside Gardens beautification event
Along with United Way of Greater Atlanta, Community Bucket, We Repair the World: Atlanta and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, volunteers will work on beautification projects around the city. Projects like this include weeding, raking and planting.
The event is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 386 Elm St NW Atlanta, GA 30314.
NAACP DeKalb County Branch’s 21st annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade
City of officials and staff gather will gather with the community in the parade to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King.
The parade’s theme this year is “Sound the Alarm.”
The parade will begin at Green Pastures Christian Church in Decatur at 11 a.m.
Hosea Helps, Inc. MLK Day holiday giveaway event
Hosea Helps plans to give away care packages to families in the community.
Those attending the distribution event can expect to receive meals that can feed a family of four for two weeks, fresh fruits and vegetables, school supplies for the first 500 families and personal protective equipment supplies.
The City of East Point hosts the 5th Annual MLK Day of Service
The City of East Point will host a volunteer event focusing on serving the community.
Volunteers will serve hot meals and provide complimentary meal bags to individuals and families in need while supplies last. Officials will also conduct diabetes, blood pressure and high cholesterol checks.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jefferson Park Recreation Center located at 1431 Norman Berry Drive.
MLK March Committee Rally and March
The Martin Luther King Jr. Committee will host a Rustin Lorde Brunch and the MLK March and Rally starting at 1:45 p.m. The event will end with the rally in front of the King Center in Atlanta.
