(ATLANTA, Ga.) — The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is holding a series of public events to present the progress and decisions made about the planned Clifton Corridor transit line.
The project, which has been in varying stages of development as far back as 2012, seems to be wrapping up its planning phase now. MARTA has made the decision to open the project at this time to public feedback, in an attempt to gain insight into what shape the line should take to match local needs and expectations.
The project would see a high-capacity transit corridor connecting Lindbergh Station, through Emory and North Decatur, to Avondale Station. This is a high-population corridor with high economic activity that remains underserved by transit.
The two major options being considered are Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), similar to existing MARTA buses, and Light Rail Transit (LRT), which would look like Downtown Atlanta’s streetcar loop.
While BRT would be faster and cheaper to implement, it would likely fail to accommodate the anticipated ridership of the line. LRT would take longer and be more expensive, but would come with built-in longevity and high-capacity train cars.
The meetings will take place in a variety of formats, to accommodate as many different voices as they can.
