Documents shed new light on Johns Creek teen’s death, suspect’s alleged role

NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News has received new documents that describe the last hours of a 16-year-old Johns Creek girl.

Shawn Mark Anthony Saleem, 25, is facing charges of concealing the death of another and contributing to the delinquency of minors. Saleem appeared in court on Wednesday, where a judge denied him bond.

“I will prove my innocence in the jail system,” he told the judge.

On Feb. 14, police responded to a home on Craftsman Street in response to a teen found unresponsive. Friends identified her as 16-year-old Carly Jackson. She was a student at Johns Creek High School.

According to a police affidavit, Jackson, along with other friends, was with Saleem, also known “Black Jesus” at an apartment on Craftsman Street. According to witnesses in the affidavit, the group was doing drugs, including crushed oxycodone and marijuana, drinking alcohol, and mixture of medications that included codeine, and some were having sex.

That evening, a witness told police that Jackson went to bed alone sometime after midnight and at some point in the middle of the night, Jackson got into bed with a female friend. When that friend woke up the next morning, she told police that she found Jackson unresponsive and cold to the touch.

According to the affidavit, when Jackson’s friend went to tell Saleem, he told her that he said that she had been that way for hours. When asked why he didn’t call 911, Saleem replied that he couldn’t because he had drugs, the friend said.

Saleem is accused of then moving Jackson’s body to a different apartment in the same complex. He is also accused of asking another teen to lie to police and confess that she moved Jackson’s body.

During the investigation, detectives found vomit in Saleem’s bedroom. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is testing suspected illegal substances found at the apartment.

Legal analyst Esther Panitch told Channel 2 Action News she believes prosecutors could be looking at manslaughter or murder charges if they can prove Saleem supplied Jackson with a lethal dose of the the drug.

Saleem was already out of jail on bond for drug charges in Forsyth County and has another case pending in New York.
