A young Lawrenceville woman apparently caused the accident that claimed her on life Sunday.
Gwinnett Police said Brittany Sailors, 16, of Lawrenceville, turned left from Graystone Parkway onto Lakeview Road - right in front of a car driven by Mutajah Paasewe, 23, of Grayson.
There was a tremendous crash and Paasewe’s car hit Brittany’s driver-side door.
“(Brittany) died on the scene as a result of injuries she sustained in the collision,” Gwinnett Police Cpl. Ed Ritter said.
Neither Brittany nor her passenger, 16-year old Lacey Gowens, were wearing seatbelts, according to Ritter. Gowens was seriously hurt in the wreck.
Paawese and his passenger, Dario Abreu, 19, of Norcross, were also hurt in the accident.
Paawese was later charged with DUI.
Even so, detectives blamed the accident on young Brittany.
"She's the primary cause of this accident (because she turned) left in front of the other vehicle," Ritter said. "He (Paawese) had the right-of-way."
