Dunwoody Police hand out safety flashers to local trick-or-treaters

The Dunwoody Police Department is continuing its annual tradition of giving out free safety flashers to local families as part of its “See and Be Seen” campaign.

“Typically, we give out anywhere from 500 to 1,000 of these flashers,” Dunwoody Police Sgt. Josh Sanders said. “We really urge the parents to have the kids put them on their Halloween bucket or their costume, even the dog leash or the collar, just something where we can actually see the children while they’re actively trick-or-treating.”

Sanders initially saw the need for the devices while on patrol on Halloween night four years ago. With the help of other city employees, they were able to find blue flashing lights that the department has passed out every year since.

This year officers will be giving them out at the annual Trunk-or-Treat event in Brook Run Park from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday.
