CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Deputies have arrested a man they say caused a Thanksgiving Day crash that killed a young volleyball player and her father.
The Mynes family, a father, mother and their two daughters, were riding down Knox Bridge Road in Canton, Ga. on Thanksgiving morning when deputies say a Ford F-150 truck crossed the center line and crashed into the car.
Authorities said the driver, 52-year-old Chris Mynes, and his 18-year-old daughter Alivia Mynes, who was in the back seat, died in the crash. Deputies said his wife and younger daughter were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators arrested 24-year-old William Clark, of Canton, on Feb. 11. He has been charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle in the 2nd degree and failure to maintain lane.
Deputies said Clark crossed the centerline and hit the Mynes’ family’s car. A toxicology report revealed Clark was not impaired at the time of the crash. Investigators believe he fell asleep at the wheel.
Alivia Mynes was a former standout for Creekview High School and had just finished her freshman season at Bryan College in Tennessee.
A GoFundMe set up for the family raised more than $41,000.
