DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County fire is investigating a house fire in Chamblee.
Officials said crews were called to investigate a fire at a home on Hardee Avenue just after 5:20 a.m. Friday.
The homeowner said around 2 a.m., he heard a “pop” from inside his home. Then, the power went out.
After he lost power, the homeowner went to his truck to charge his phone and fell asleep.
Officials said a neighbor called 911 when they saw fire inside the home.
The homeowner woke up and made it out safely. While fighting the fire, one firefighter was injured after tripping over a hose in the backyard. He is expected to be OK.
Crews confirmed that the home is a total loss.
The cause remains under investigation.
