Woman, caretaker escape fire that destroyed Cherokee County home

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — A Cherokee County woman’s home is gone, but she and her caretaker were able to escape before it went up in flames.

Firefighters responded to a home in the 800 block of Willow Oak Circle near the Victoria Campground at Lake Allatoona just before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

911 callers said they could see flames coming from the two-story home. One caller said they heard multiple explosions coming from inside the home.

The woman who lived in the home appeared to be in her eighties and was on oxygen at the time of the fire. She was taken to a nearby hospital to be evaluated, but her injuries appeared to be minor.

Fire crews say was destroyed in the fire.

Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
