Perhaps even the most optimistic of Braves fans would not have expected a sweep of the Mets. But that’s exactly what happened this weekend at Truist Park.

In the big showdown series of the pennant race’s near-conclusion, the Braves took all three games from visiting New York, topped by Sunday night’s 5-3 win.

Dansby Swanson and Matt Olson homered in the same game for a third straight night. Solid pitching was capped by Kenley Jansen’s third save in three nights.

When the series opened Friday, the Braves trailed the Mets by a game in the NL East. Now, Atlanta owns a two-game edge with three regular season games to go. One win for the Braves in Miami, or any Mets loss to the Nationals over the next three days, makes Atlanta a division winner for a 5th straight season.

Should the Braves and Mets end the season in a tie, Atlanta would take the division crown based on a season-series tiebreaker, 10-9 over the Mets.

The Braves have played at an incredible pace since June 1, when they trailed the Mets by 10-1/2 games. Since then, Atlanta is 76-32. Sunday night’s win was #100 on the season (100-59). It’s the Braves’ first 100-win season since 2003 (101-61).
