Monday night, Alicia Murrell, 27, was another victim in Atlanta’s growing list of victims as crime continues increasing. According to Atlanta Police, Murrell was shot and killed just before 3 a.m. at the Magnolia Park Apartments in Vine City.
Her mother Sonya was absolutely devastated.
“Y’all took my heart away from me,” said Sonya Murrell. “I’m feeling heartbroken, devastated & distraught.”
The mother said getting the phone call about her daughter shook her to her core.
“I just dropped the phone,” said Sonya Murrell.

Channel 2′s Kristen Holloway spoke with Bishop John Lewis Wednesday morning. Lewis is the Chairperson of the Historic Vine City Civic Association.
He told Holloway the community has been on edge since Alicia’s murder on top of the multiple shootings and homicides in Atlanta over the past several weeks.
“The sense of fear in our community now especially among women and children in our community,” said Lewis.
Lewis and other community activists and leaders have organized nightly walks around the Magnolia Park Apartments where Alicia Murrell was killed.
The group is out every night from 7-11 p.m. handing out information on emergency counseling, financial assistance and food.
“This senseless murder of this beautiful young lady Alicia is just unbelievable,” Lewis said. “We want to be there as an ongoing presence especially for the women and children and families in our communities so they know there are those of us who care

As Atlanta police continue investigating, trying to find out who killed Alicia. Sonya Murrell says she has a message for the person or people who murdered her daughter.
“I know y’all not gonna turn y’all self in but justice will be served,” said Murrell.
