All Clear in White, Habersham counties: evacuees return to their homes

Residents in Hall and Forsyth counties continued cleaning up the damage left behind after this weekend's record rainfall led to serious flooding.

People who evacuated homes in Habersham and White counties have been given the all clear and allowed to return: evacuations took place Sunday because of the possibility of flooding. Many of the roads in Hall County, closed because of flooding, are reopening.

From WSB TV…

Hall County officials will be assessing damage to their area on Monday morning after strong storms moved through the area on Saturday night.

Channel 2′s Audrey Washington spoke with residents now dealing with cleanup and repairs.

Heavy rains caused flooding to Mud Creek Road and almost made it impassable.

“It filled up and washed completely over our driveway,” resident Katie Irvin said.

Irvin said she has lived on Mud Creek Road in Hall County for years, and this is the first time she has seen a storm do so much damage.

“I have never seen it, until today, wash that entire section of Mud Creek Road, and there’s a big section of our road that’s missing,” Irvin said.

Nobody was hurt, but Irvin said the floodwaters left her family trapped.

“We couldn’t turn left out of our driveway. We couldn’t turn right. We’re just out here kind of in the middle of nothing,” Irvin said.

B Clark Road in Hall County was also affected by flooding that caused a chunk of the road to wash out.

“My neighbor’s yard got flooded,” resident Bruce Johnson said. “I had about 2 feet of water come through my barn.”
