Internet Safety Event Brings Joy To Atlanta Seniors

Seniors at Cyber Security Event

Atlanta, GA — Attorneys General from Alabama and South Carolina joined Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr Friday morning at the Quality Living Center in South West Atlanta to talk about cyber-security. The event, also featured Comcast’s Internet Essentials program designed at teaching those most vulnerable (seniors and young children) about the what to do and not do on the Internet.

Cyber crime, says AG Carr, “doesn’t stop at state lines, or county lines, or city lines”, which is why it’s so important to have a regional partnership to help catch these those criminals. Carr told the story of how an internet scam hit close to home with one of his family members, who ended up loosing $300 to criminals.

The public/private partnership between Comcast and now 20 states is aimed at helping people avoid getting scammed. This is achieved by a series of initiatives including internet literacy classes taught at senior centers just like the one being offered at QLS. In addition to the class, Comcast donated 20 brand new laptops to QLS’ computer center. They also gave away 200 laptops and a year of free internet service to the senior-citizens who were in attendance at the event, who were utterly delighted.

Also on the dais for the event were Fulton County Commissioner Marvin Arrington, Jr., twin sisters and Olympic gold medalists Joyceline and Monique Larmaoureaux
