No one was injured after an eight hour standoff between a man holding hostages in his apartment and a SWAT team in Cobb County.

News/Talk WSB's Richard Sangster reports that residents first noticed a man walking up and down Akers Mill Road with a shotgun around 7 p.m. Monday night.

By the time police arrived the suspect had retreated into his room at Columns at Akers Mill Apartments on Akers Mill Rd. A woman believed to be the man’s wife and his 4-year-old son were also inside that apartment. Police said the suspect never threatened them or officers outside. However, the man did come out on his deck and yelled at police to go away.

Sangster watched around 2 a.m as police used a bullhorn to persuade the man to give up and come out. An hour later, that is exactly what he did.

“At some point as the officers were speaking to him in Spanish he just came out,” Cobb County police Sgt. Dana Pierce told Sangster. “The suspect was still yelling and still unhappy, but they were able to convince him to come out.

The suspect never fired his shot gun and Sgt. Pierce said the woman and the boy were never in any danger. The man is charged with domestic violence and cruelty to children.
