Hotel trying to lure Atlantans working from home

ATLANTA, Ga. — The American Hotel and Lodging Association says two-thirds of hotels won’t make it six more months unless congress passes another COVID stimulus bill. But one big chain is now asking people who are currently working from home to take a week and work from the hotel instead.

Efrain Mogollon says he knows people who have been working from home, and it’s not working out. “From people that I know that are working from home, it has been a real mess.” Mogollon says the pandemic made that mess, and now the Hyatt hopes to clean it up.

“I think our customers who have been working from home for seven-plus months are eager for human interaction,” Ashley Hartert said.

Hartert is with the Grand Hyatt Atlanta in Buckhead. The company just launched a “Work From Hyatt” promotion primarily aimed at locals who are working from home or home schooling. You can stay a week in the hotel, get a discount on the room, work or teach by the pool and hit the gym—all under one roof. “Our guests can take a break from cooking three meals a day and let us do the housekeeping for them,” Hartert said.

The hotel industry has been hit hard by the pandemic, and they’re thinking outside the box to lure guests back. Efrain Mogollon says it may not be a vacation, but a “workation” is the next best thing. “They might want to change the environment. So by coming to the hotel and staying for a week, they can free up their mind and concentrate on what they really need to do.”

60 Hyatt hotels are part of the promotion. The company says families with children represent 20% of the bookings.
