JACKSON COUNTY, Ga — Jackson County deputies saved a 17-year-old girl who lost control while tubing down a Georgia river, authorities say.
Deputies arrived just after 8:30 p.m. at Hurricane Shoals Park in Jackson County on Thursday in response to a call about a missing person.

Two 17-year-old girls from Lawrenceville had been going down the North Oconee River on tube floats. One of the girls exited the river at the bottom, but the other continued down the river, deputies say.
Deputies went to Woods Bridge Road at the bridge to try and locate the girl. A man on Woods Bridge Road was searching the area and told a deputy that he had heard someone yelling for help.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., the girl exited the river around the area of Smith Lane off Apple Valley Road, and she was able to make her way to a home for help.
Other than being cold and frightened, deputies say she was fine and returned to the park, where her mother and stepfather were waiting.
The girl’s identity was not released.
In a news release, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department thanked responders for preventing a situation from potentially becoming tragic.
