The family of a woman killed in an accident with an Atlanta police officer is expressing concern for the cop's family.

The family does say however that Jackie Culp did believe in accountability and they want the officer to be held responsible for the accident.

Atlanta police officer Joshua Sieck has been charged in the deadly accident and was then later fired.  Fulton County Police Detective Melissa Parker tells WSB Sieck was responding to a call July 21 when he collided with a BMW at Cascade and Fairburn Road.

59-year-old Jacqueline Culp died from her injuries two days later.

"We have charged him with second-degree vehicular homicide as opposed to first-degree.  First degree would be if you were DUI or reckless driving," said Parker.

A third driver, Kenyatta White, said Sieck appeared to be driving too fast.

"He was responding to a call, an emergency call he was dispatched to; however, officers would still have to use due caution when entering an intersection meaning that he would have to slow down and be mindful of all of his surroundings," said Parker.

Second-degree homicide is a misdemeanor.

"It just goes to show that police officers are human and can make the same mistakes as anyone else.  It just kind of reflects to all the officers that they need to be careful and be mindful that we can all make mistakes and accidents can happen to anyone," said Parker.
