A metro megachurch preacher is in trouble with the law.
The leader of the Gospel Tabernacle Church was indicted Thursday by a DeKalb County grand jury on eight counts of violating Georgia’s Securities Act.
Bishop Wiley Jackson faces eight counts of illegally selling shares in a company called Genesis LLC, bilking at least two investors out of more than $12,000. The two members of Wiley’s Gospel Tabernacle Church said they were promised huge returns on their investments as far back as 2002. But now, their money is gone.
“When you’re a man of the cloth, people trust you. And when you mix investments with religion, people often don’t do their due diligence,” said DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James.
Jackson and his brother Rodney now face trial for violating Georgia’s securities act. They also face some very angry investors.
