Atlanta police impounded a damaged Dodge Nitro on Monday that matches the description of a vehicle that hit a cyclist earlier this month.
Investigators followed a tip and located a vehicle that matched the description of the one that hit Greg Germani on June 9, police said in a news release.
“Investigators observed damage on the vehicle and have impounded the vehicle to further investigate,” police spokesman Officer John Chafee said.
Police have been looking for a vehicle like the one that was impounded since the incident. According to police, Germani was struck by a red Dodge Nitro on Flagler Avenue in Morningside. His body was dragged about 50 feet by the vehicle, police said.
Witnesses said Germani was riding his bike down Montgomery Ferry Road around 6 p.m. when he was almost struck by the Nitro, which was turning from Flagler Avenue. Germani and the driver allegedly got into an argument and moments later, video of the area shows Germani heading down Flagler and the SUV later follows.
