Argument over a dog leads to murder in Gwinnett

23-year-old Diamon Gregory Mason

A Lawrenceville man is charged with killing his step-father over a dog.

Gwinnett County police investigators were called to the home of 51-year-old Joseph Kollie on Congress Parkway early Wednesday morning.

Cpl. Ed Ritter tells WSB's Sandra Parrish he had been stabbed repeatedly by his step-son, 23-year-old Diamond Mason, during an argument over a puppy he had brought to his parents’ home a week ago.

"They asked him to remove the puppy from the home and he refused to," says Ritter.  "After about a week, it got more heated between the two."

He says during the final argument, Mason retrieved two large knives and stabbed his step-father multiple times.

Kollie died at the scene.  Mason is charged with felony murder and aggravated assault.
