Georgia Bulldogs fans should have an easier time traveling to Athens via State Route 316 this football season.
Due to the mostly dry weather this summer, construction is moving right along on the new interchanges at Ga. 20 and Collins Hills Road.
The Georgia Department of Transportation is hoping motorists will be able to bypass the signal at State Route 20 as soon as this fall.
“Our next focus is getting 316 off of that ramp up to 20 and away from those signals so you can have limited access extended all the way out to Progress Center,” says spokesperson Teri Pope.
The latest phase of the project was completed last Friday as the new entrance ramp onto SR 316 eastbound from Collins Hill opened to traffic.
Pope tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish all four lanes on the Collins Hill bridge should open to traffic this week after an equipment problem delayed Friday’s opening.
