Your HVAC system and weather changes

Stop with the waffling already…

Q – We are getting to the time of year when it's hot, then it is cold, then hot again.

I am sure me switching my thermostat from cool to heat to cool to heat won't be doing my hvac system any favors.

What should I do?

Johnny in Loganville

A - Actually, weather changes are what your hvac system is all about.  It makes no nether mind to it if you are asking it to heat or cool every other day - as long as your unit is working correctly (and that is why hvac service contracts are such a good investment).

It does sound like it is making life hard on you though worrying about the constant changes and trying to keep your home comfortable.

What you need to purchase and have installed is an auto-change-over thermostat.  That is a 'smart' thermostat that, when programmed to desired temperatures, will know whether to turn on the heat or the cool to reach that temperature.

There are even thermostats out on the market now that you can set to a specific humidity as well which will allow the air to run a little longer at times to help keep your home's humidity at a desired level.

And, if that weren't enough, you can know get it all fixed so you can run the system right from the palm of your hand via your smart phone.

So upgrade your thermostat, set it, and forget it!
