Actor George Wendt, known as Norm on “Cheers,” dies at 76

LOS ANGELES, CA — According to CBS News, George Wendt, the comedian and actor known for his role as Norm on “Cheers,” has died. He was 76.

“George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him,” the family’s statement read. “He will be missed forever.”

Wendt played Norm Peterson on “Cheers” from 1982 to 1993. He then went on to star in his own show, “The George Wendt Show,” and had appearances on several other programs including Saturday Night Live.

According to his family, Wendt passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home.
